I know I have not been posting. Work was insane and the weather turned to crap, so there was no hope of commuting by bike. But I have been riding. Went camping up near Asheville a couple weekends ago and took the bikes. I underestimated the elevation issue. Lack of oxygen had me gasping after the slightest incline, and there was nothing slight about the inclines in the mountains. Whew! My cardiovascular system is used to a nice 300 feet above sea level. It didn't know what hit it. Fall colors were lovely though.
Our good friends who have, like us, a place in Cary and a place at the lake just bought sweet brand new mountain bikes from REI. They came over to show them off Sunday and we all went for a short ride around the neighborhood. I gave them "bikewarming" prezzies, socks from
NLZ because they are cheap and they rock.
The weather was warm that day. I have discovered that I simply cannot ride in the cold. A cool breeze on my face like that and my sinuses just swell up completely shut. It is misery and can't possibly be a good way to exercise. You'd think a year of allergy shots would have helped this issue, but alas. I will just have to settle for lousy spinning classes most of the winter unless I can manage a trip south. Riding in the cold at the mountains wrecked my nose so bad that it has been aching and bleeding off and on ever since and I think I may at this point have a sinus infection. Yeah, it blows. Back in the boring gym I go!
